Chris Durand Joins Gilbane Building Company to Expand Presence in Virginia
A seasoned industry and Army veteran, Chris brings significant client experience to Gilbane’s Virginia construction operations.
Richmond, VA – February 2017 – Gilbane Building Company welcomes Chris Durand to its mid-Atlantic family as a client development manager in Gilbane’s Richmond, VA office. A graduate of the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y.; Chris brings nearly 10 years of military experience in addition to his 25 years of industry experience. At his previous company, Chris developed relationships with A/E firms, improved the visibility of his firm in the marketplace and fostered relationships with new and existing customers. His efforts resulted in an increase of company sales by more than 25 percent in 2016.
Mr. Durand spent the last 25 years primarily focused on the design and installation of process, mechanical and instrumentation systems. At Gilbane Chris will focus on cultivating economic development partnerships statewide that will help build on Virginia’s investment in businesses and expand Gilbane’s presence throughout the state. He will help grow Gilbane’s current portfolio to include new markets, while fostering relationships with Gilbane’s existing clients. When asked what brought him to Gilbane, Chris replied, “For about five years now I have had a goal to work for a large, notable construction company, but I was waiting for the right opportunity. When I started down the path with Gilbane, who I had worked with previously, I knew I found that opportunity. Gilbane’s commitment to their core values and their people aligns with my career growth goals.”
John Taylor, Gilbane’s Business Unit Leader in Virginia, sees Chris’ previous experience as an opportunity to build on Gilbane’s current portfolio in Virginia, “We are excited to continue building our team by adding Chris Durand to our Gilbane family. Chris’ existing relationships with clients, and architecture and engineering firms throughout Virginia will help increase Gilbane’s visibility statewide.”
Mr. Durand holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the U.S. Military Academy and resigned commission as a Captain (USAR) in 1999. He has been a member of Senator Kaine’s Academy Selection Committee since 2014. Chris is also active in his community, previously serving on the Board of Directors for Sportable, the Richmond Fisher House Foundation and the West Point Society of Richmond.
