Washington, DC

As tower cranes take their place as permanent fixtures in the Washington D.C. skyline, Gilbane’s local office continues its growth as a leading contractor in the D.C. metro area. In the last three years Gilbane’s D.C. office has nearly tripled in size to keep up with the increasing demands of the marketplace.

Gilbane continues to hire the best talent, invest in the local community and push the boundaries of the industry as we have consistently done in the area for more than 40 years. A Top 5 Builder, according to the Washington Business Journal, Gilbane continues to increase our presence throughout D.C. and Northern Virginia. By working with notable clients such as Tishman Speyer, Capital One, Children’s National Medical Center, the D.C. Department of General Services and others; Gilbane has built a portfolio of diverse and complex facilities. In addition to the commercial sector focus, Gilbane’s federal operations are headquartered in the Arlington/D.C. location and support dozens of local and national federal government agencies.

People Are Our Greatest Resource

The Washington D.C. metro area houses one of the most diverse populations in the United States. Gilbane has tapped into that diverse pool; hiring graduates from nearby universities, working with small and local businesses, and creating partnerships with local companies and communities. In our humble opinion our employees are the best D.C. has to offer. Having experience ranging from coordination with local agencies such as WMATA and the DC Preservation League to utilizing laser scanning to provide clash detection for tenant fit-outs; our clients get talented team members willing to challenge the industry standards. Whatever delivery model suits your project’s individual needs from design-build to CM at-Risk to public private partnerships (P3), Gilbane can help deliver a project that ultimately achieves your organization’s mission and makes your vision a reality.

Let Us Be Your Partner

Do you have an idea for a proton therapy center that will revolutionize the way a patient receives cancer treatments? A Class A office building that will act as an incubator for D.C.’s emerging start-ups? Maybe a sports arena that will change the way fans experience the game? Our leadership wants to work with you from the moment you decide to make your idea a reality to the moment your first patient walks out of the hospital cancer-free or your first start-up announces its IPO. No matter what, our clients walk away knowing that our team’s commitment does not end at substantial completion.

Local Outreach

Critical to the success of Washington D.C. is diversifying the economy and providing opportunities and mentorship for local, small and disadvantaged businesses. If you are planning construction in the District you have more to focus on than structural issues. You want a general contractor who will ensure your project meets (CBE) procurement goals or other workforce requirements and leaves a community legacy that creates sustainable growth.

Gilbane has long-standing relationships and deep networks to help us focus CBE outreach efforts within the local subcontractor market to build an equitable pool of qualified workers for your project.

Some of our most worthwhile projects can’t be seen on our resumes, but instead they are manifested in the communities our volunteers have touched. We are creating urban farms that can educate locals about sustainable produce. We are enabling children with disabilities to have experiences they never dreamed of through our partnership with KEEN Greater DC. For the last 13 years our local office has been mentoring future architects, engineers and builders through ACE Mentoring. Whatever the cause, Gilbane is building a better future for the very community where we live, work, and play.

Other organizations with which we actively participate are:

  • Compete DC
  • March of Dimes
  • Make a Wish Foundation
  • Higher Achievement
