William J. Gilbane, Jr.

William J. Gilbane, Jr. is vice chairman of Gilbane Building Company and vice president of Gilbane, Inc. As former president and chief operating officer, he was responsible for Gilbane Building Company’s sales and operations. His passion for culture and people development inspired him to create and grow Gilbane University, an immersive training platform recognized by Training Magazine as one of the top learning organizations.

Mr. Gilbane was awarded the Engineering News Record (ENR) Newsmaker Award of Excellence in 2007 for his achievements in leading the drive for continuous improvement in customer satisfaction. To continue his family’s legacy of exceeding expectations, he created several quality-driven systems to spur continuous improvement. In 2017, he was recognized with a Legacy Award from ENR New England honoring his lifetime of service, both to the architect/engineering/construction profession and the community.

Mr. Gilbane holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Brown University. He is a member of the Irish Famine Memorial Committee and the President’s Roundtable for the Rochester Institute of Technology and serves on the board for the Rhode Island Reds Heritage Society. He is a past member of the University of Rhode Island Civil and Environmental Engineering Advisory Council, the Board of Overseers of Roger Williams University, the U.S. Olympic Committee and the Advisory Committee for the NCAA Hockey Championship. Mr. Gilbane is a past chairman of the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation of Rhode Island and a former board member for Professional Facilities Management and Salve Regina University.
