Structured Light Scans vs. Lidar (Laser Scan): Differentiating the Value Streams

Description: Traditional laser scanning has proven its value with quality and accuracy of the data collected and will remain “the standard” for many uses on construction projects. The downside to Lidar is cost, file size, and the speed of data collection. Structured light scan implementation adds value where Lidar scans would not be practical; time savings, affordable technology, and easy cloud storage. This is ideal for smaller projects that do not require high dimensional accuracy, but understanding and communication is the goal. I will discuss the delineation of uses where each type of scan saves time and money.
