Gilbane Cares in Action

January 4, 2022

Gilbane Cares is at the heart of how we work at Gilbane. Caring is one of our core values. It’s the cornerstone of our risk management, strategy, and proactive planning. All internal meetings begin with a Gilbane Cares moment where a safety story is shared with the group. I am very proud to work for a company that lives its core values. The Gilbane Cares program began twelve years ago with a focus on promoting an Incident and Injury Free (IIF) workplace, which includes training a commitment from leadership to enforce safe practices on every job site. Today, the Gilbane Cares philosophy extends beyond safety practices, as we proactively work together to promote physical and mental safety at home, in the office, and on our construction projects.

Proactively Preparing for Disaster

GRS Disaster Response is a proud partner with Gilbane. At GRS, we believe that includes building a sound risk mitigation plan to make sure our clients protect their investments from all types of events, whether it be a natural disaster, a fire, a water main break, or some other catastrophe. The key is to take a proactive position in your ability to protect the investment, your employees, and your stakeholders.

The first question we ask our clients is, what is your risk strategy? Do you have a proactive plan in place should an unexpected setback occur? The last thing you want to think about with a brand-new building is an incident that compromises the” newness of the build. Unfortunately, things happen. We encourage owners and/or builders to purchase Builder’s Risk insurance should it occur during the build. Once the building is turned over and signed off apart from the warranty period, the owner’s property insurance takes over.

It really comes down to this: Who can afford to be shut down?  If you are, how long can you withstand a shutdown?  According to the Association of Contingency Planners, Recovery Time Objective (RTO) is the maximum desired length of time allowed between an unexpected failure or disaster and the resumption of normal operations and service levels.   It is the time you can afford up until you hit the period where it has devastating consequences for business continuity.  The recent pandemic challenged some of those concerns, but many found that they could in fact function with a workforce that was offsite for an extended period.  Today, many companies still operate in a hybrid employee model allowing more work from home.  Bandwidth used to be the biggest challenge, but we have overcome that with newer technology.

Certified Partner

At GRS, we are honored to hold the designation “Certified Business Continuity Vendor” and to partner with Gilbane to extend its Gilbane Cares philosophy to disaster response. Understanding the need to shorten the time of loss and potential business interruption is critical and a non-negotiable when protecting your assets and your team for the future.

Gilbane Cares Philosophy

Gilbane Cares is Gilbane Building Company’s philosophy built on the belief that everyone — our employees, clients, partners, and the public — deserves a safe, healthy and secure work environment. Everyone has great intentions.  Not everyone follows through with proactive planning and preparedness. In the words of a former CEO of ServiceMaster, one of the companies we partner with to provide a seamless response, “If you don’t live it, you don’t believe it.” Be proactive today. Put your plan in place.

We have a veteran team of industry experts who developed a proactive approach to create a fully transparent scope and cost program for property owners and their insurance carriers. Connect with our disaster response experts to find out more.
