Celebrating 10 Years of Gilbane Cares

December 11, 2018

In 2018, we are proud to celebrate 10 years of Gilbane Cares. The safety actions of our employees and co-workers are driven from choice, not just from formal compliance. Like family, we look out for each other each day – at home, in the office and on our construction projects – we are committed to ensuring that everyone returns home safely each night. While we’ve always had a commitment to safety, we still wanted to get better.  To help us on this journey, we engaged JMJ Associates, a global management consultancy headquartered in Austin, Texas, who helped us transform our safety culture and approach to safety.  We quickly realized that our safety culture was one of a caring nature and renamed our safety program “Gilbane Cares”.  We have extended our culture of caring to other aspects of our business to include diversity and inclusion, sustainability, and giving back to the communities we live and work in and making a difference in those communities.

Hear more about our safety journey in this short video:

Safety lies at the heart of everything we do at Gilbane. It’s our top priority on every job site and we train, equip and empower every Gilbane employee to make sure that our subcontractors, our partners, clients and our teams stay incident and injury free every day.  It doesn’t just stay at the jobsite either, Gilbane Cares is something that we also take home.  On the weekends, as we observe our neighbors try something unsafe in their backyard, we realize we have to step in say, “I care” and “I am going to make a difference”.

Safety cuts across competitive boundaries. That’s why since 2014, Gilbane joined more than 30 other national and global construction firms from the Construction Industry Safety (CISI) group and the Incident and Injury Free CEO (IIF) Forum to celebrate U.S. Industry Safety Week.

Other ways we include Gilbane Cares into everyday activities:

  • Stretch & Flex is held daily at the jobsite and at the office
  • Incident and Injury Free (IIF) Orientations and Supervising IIF in Action classes are held for employees and key tradespeople
  • Gilbane Cares Leadership Team Meetings help re-focus our operations and safety leadership at the project level.
  • First Aid/ CPR and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) life-saving training is offered to all employees

Additionally, before the start of each meeting, a Gilbane Cares moment is shared to learn and reflect on important safety issues. The journey continues… here’s to another 10 years!
