Asian Professionals in Construction (APIC) Employee Resource Group is proud to celebrate our theme of AAPI Leaders in the Modern AgeAdvancing Leaders Through Identity, Innovation, and Culture.

Did you know?

AAPI Heritage Month is an annual celebration from May 1 to May 31 that recognizes the historical and cultural contributions of individuals and groups of Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Islander (AAPI). The AAPI umbrella term includes cultures from the entire Asian continent—including East, Southeast, and South Asia—and the Pacific Islands of Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia.

During Heritage Month, AAPIs celebrate and honor their cultures and heritages while recognizing their accomplishments and the success of fellow leaders.

Why do we celebrate AAPI Heritage Month?

Asians, Asian Americans, and Pacific Islanders have contributed significantly to many facets of American culture and society, including science and medicine, literature and art, sports and recreation, government and politics, activism, and law.

In AAPI cultures, flowers transcend mere adornments; they bear narratives, emotions, and a rich cultural legacy. These symbolic blossoms serve as poignant reminders of the resilience, grace, and lasting influence of AAPI people. Flowers represent empowerment, celebrating growth, and honoring nobility.

Our selection of the floral theme for 2024 is a symbolic celebration of all AAPI leaders in the modern age, particularly those who propel progress through their distinct identities, innovative spirit, and cultural contributions. In the bustling corridors of corporate headquarters, the hallowed halls of academia, and the vibrant neighborhoods of our cities, a new era of leadership is in bloom—one that transcends borders defines stereotypes, and celebrates the rich tapestry of all AAPI identities.

Fueled by their unique backgrounds and unwavering commitment, these leaders shape the future with a blend of tradition and innovation. And this year, we are here to celebrate these successes.

Over the last four years since APIC’s launch in 2021, we have expanded to over 18 chapters domestically and internationally. To celebrate our passionate leaders who exemplify APIC’s mission, vision, and goals, we will highlight several of our regional chapter and global leadership team members.

During May, APIC is hosting weekly events to share AAPI stories and experiences of AAPI Leaders in the Modern Age.

Enterprise-wide AAPI Heritage Month Events include:

  • Week 1 – AAPI Heritage Scavenger Hunt Commences
  • Week 2 – Safety Week Mental Health Session
  • Week 3 – Coffee & Learn + Leader Conversation with Dr. So-Yeon Yoon, Associate Professor of Design & Environmental Analysis at Cornell University
  • Week 4 – Coffee & Learn + Leader Conversation with Hannah Mobarek, Gilbane Northern California Business Development Manager
  • Week 5 – AAPI Heritage Scavenger Hunt Winners Announced

This AAPI Heritage Month, we challenge you to go out and participate in new experiences and learn about different cultures. Attend APIC’s local and enterprise-wide AAPI Heritage Month events, and have fun!
