Worcester, MA – August 4, 2026 – Gilbane Building joined Quinsigamond Community College (QCC), the Massachusetts Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance (DCAMM), elected officials and project partners to celebrate the placement of the final structural steel beam for the new Quinsigamond Community College Center, marking a major construction milestone in the $37.4 million renovation and expansion project.
The topping off ceremony marked completion of the building’s structural frame and celebrated the continued transformation of a 1960s-era athletic facility into the approximately 57,000-square-foot QCC Center. Once complete, the facility will serve as a modern, accessible hub for learning, workforce development and student life.
“Through careful planning, advocacy, fundraising, design and construction, the vision is now becoming a reality,” said QCC President Dr. Luis Pedraja. “Most importantly, this will create opportunities for students to develop the skills they need to succeed in today’s workforce and strengthen the connection between education, industry and our community.”
Gilbane Building is serving as construction manager in partnership with QCC, DCAMM, the design team and trade partners. The milestone recognizes the collaboration, planning and craftsmanship that continue to move the project forward safely and efficiently.
“The event celebrates a significant milestone and the many people and partnerships helping bring this project to life,” said Craig Skurka, operations manager, Gilbane Building. “At Gilbane, we are committed to creating healthy, safe and sustainable spaces that have a lasting impact on the community. We are honored to partner with QCC on this transformative project.”
When complete, the QCC Center will feature advanced manufacturing and robotics laboratories, hospitality training spaces, flexible classrooms and revitalized athletic facilities. The project also includes significant infrastructure and accessibility improvements designed to create a more inclusive and welcoming environment for all students.
Designed to achieve LEED Gold certification, the facility will support improved energy performance, enhanced indoor air quality and the college’s long-term sustainability goals.
Expected to open in fall 2027, the QCC Center will serve as a centerpiece of the college’s campus, creating new opportunities for hands-on learning, workforce training and community engagement.
