Brand-new facility will be dedicated to supporting next-generation cancer therapies

Gilbane was selected to lead preconstruction and construction of the core and shell building of the $450 million project. Once complete, the facility will be dedicated to the production of radioactive molecules used in the treatment of advanced cancers and will bring more than 225 new jobs to the surrounding community.

“Over the years, Gilbane has played a pivotal role in shaping the expanding life sciences landscape in the Greater Philadelphia region,” said Gilbane’s Mid-Atlantic Division Leader Ted Holt. “These complex facilities require builders with deep life sciences expertise to achieve intense speed-to-market demands and rigorous quality standards. We’re thrilled to be part of this innovative new facility’s development and look forward to seeing the Bellwether District’s ongoing transformation.”

Gilbane has a long track record of successfully completing complex and highly regulated builds for the life sciences industry over the last several decades. The company has recently delivered Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s Morgan Center for Research and Innovation, the Alnylam Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Facility in Norton, Mass., and the Pfizer Modular Aseptic Processing (MAP) Facility in Kalamazoo, Mich.

“TerraPower was created to improve the world through nuclear energy and science. Breaking ground today on the Bellwether Laboratory represents a defining chapter in TerraPower’s history, and in the history of actinium-225 manufacturing,” said Chris Levesque, president and CEO of TerraPower. “This new flagship, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility will produce actinium-225 at a scale the industry has never seen before, providing global pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies with the reliable, large-volume supply they need to advance their clinical programs and ultimately expand cancer treatment options for patients.”

“HRP is in the business of transformation, and we’re not afraid to take bold, strategic action to achieve real results,” saidRoberto Perez, Chief Executive Officer, HRP Group. “Today marks another milestone for our company’s track record of vision and execution.
