Gilbane Building Company has been selected to serve as construction manager for the new, 110,000-SF Florence Roche Elementary School in Groton, Massachusetts.

Designed by Studio G, with Leftfield serving as owner’s project manager, the facility will feature a variety of energy-conserving elements to bring the school close to Net Zero energy consumption.

The new Florence Roche Elementary School will accommodate 645 students in grades kindergarten through grade four and offer a solution to address growing concerns regarding the state of the existing facility, originally constructed in the 1950s and beyond a state of repair.

The new facility will be organized into grade-level learning neighborhoods and feature shared learning spaces such as a media center, an outdoor learning lab (OLL), a STEM lab with outdoor patio for student projects, and music and art classrooms.

“We’re incredibly excited to be a part of the Groton project team. Having worked with Leftfield in the past on similar successful projects, we’re confident that our ‘student and community first’ mindset empowers us to deliver a new elementary school that the district can be proud of,” said Mike O’Brien, senior vice president and MA business unit leader for Gilbane.

Florence Roche Elementary School is set for completion in 2024.
