Gilbane Building Celebrates Ribbon Cutting for JoAnn Leleck Elementary School at Broad Acres

 New 117,000 SF school will welcome 894 students to a modern, sustainable learning environment in Silver Spring, MD

Silver Spring, MD – August 24, 2026 – Gilbane Building, a leading global builder, joined Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS), Craig Gaulden Davis | PBK, and the Silver Spring community to celebrate the ribbon cutting of the new JoAnn Leleck Elementary School at Broad Acres.

The new 117,000 SF, three-story school increases capacity from 761 to 894 students, creating a modern learning environment that reflects the Broad Acres community’s continued growth and MCPS’s commitment to providing students with high-quality educational spaces. Flexible learning environments adapt to students’ changing needs, while a central courtyard brings natural daylight deep into the building. A geothermal heating and cooling system supports year-round comfort and efficiency while advancing the school’s sustainability goals and Green Globes certification.

The project created opportunities for the Broad Acres community both on and off the job site. Through hands-on events led by Senior Community Impact and Engagement Specialist Yohan Green, community members connected with the trades and the built environment. The project also surpassed MCPS’s 20% Minority Business Enterprise participation goal through strategies such as right-sized bid packages that expanded opportunities for diverse businesses to compete and contribute.

Delivered through construction manager at-risk (CMAR), JoAnn Leleck Elementary School at Broad Acres builds on Gilbane’s work with school communities across Maryland and the DMV. When the doors open this fall, students will enter a school designed around their learning, wellbeing and future.
