20-year healthcare industry veteran brings strategic, patient-centered approach
Arlington, VA – November 13, 2025 – Gilbane Building’s Transition Planning & Management (Gilbane TPM) business is pleased to welcome Dena Carey RN, MBA as Senior Transition Manager. With more than 20 years of clinical and operational leadership in healthcare, Carey brings a strategic, patient-centered approach to support Gilbane TPM’s continued growth in the healthcare market.
Gilbane TPM has been a trusted partner in transition, relocation, and facility activation management for over 30 years. The team specializes in large, complex, multi-phased projects, often in 24/7 operational spaces, ensuring minimal disruption and maximum readiness.
Carey’s career spans clinical nursing, executive leadership, and strategic program development. She previously served as Associate Vice President of Women and Infant Services and Director of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), where she led the expansion of a 14-bed NICU to a 28-bed unit, increasing patient capacity and enhancing care delivery. Her close collaboration with design and construction teams ensured clinical needs were fully integrated into renovation and expansion efforts.
Her leadership is defined by a commitment to maternal and pediatric health, community engagement, and evidence-based care. Carey has spearheaded initiatives to expand prenatal access, reduce infant mortality, and support postpartum care, particularly for underserved populations. She has also championed programs such as the Labor Support Volunteer Program, Book Buddies, and the NICU Patient and Family Advisory Council, fostering family-centered care and emotional support. In her new role, Carey will partner with healthcare organizations to guide operational transitions, develop training programs, and ensure staff are equipped to thrive in new care environments. Carey brings a wealth of clinical and strategic expertise to further elevate Gilbane TPM’s healthcare capabilities.
Carey is an active member of the National Institute for Healthcare Design (NIHD) and serves as a Clinical Advisor for Synova Associates, supporting nurse leaders in maternal and neonatal care. She also supports student engagement and development as a Booster Club Board Member at CG Woodson High School.
Carey holds a Master of Business Administration from Virginia Tech and is a licensed registered nurse.
