width=Cristo Rey Boston High School (CRB) is pleased to announce that Gilbane Building Company and Thomas F. Gilbane, Jr. was honored at the annual Academic Signing Day Celebration. Academic Signing Day honors the accomplishments of the senior class and their journey to college.

“The Gilbane Building Company has been a steadfast supporter of Cristo Rey Boston, participating in the Corporate Work Study Program (CWSP) as well as lending their expertise for school projects and mentoring opportunities for students,” stated Cristo Rey Boston President Rosemary J. Powers, “The impact of their commitment has been evident in the number of students who cite Gilbane Building Company as a meaningful component of their CRB experience.”

Cristo Rey Boston utilizes an innovative educational model where students work one day a week in a corporate setting, gaining valuable career skills, and four days dedicated to a college preparatory academic schedule. Cristo Rey Boston exclusively serves students from under-resourced communities.
Gilbane Building Company has been a Corporate Work Study Partner since 2010. Under the leadership of Thomas F. Gilbane, Jr., the company has demonstrated a deep commitment to creating an inclusive culture and promoting the creation of diverse teams that bring a wealth of thought leadership to the company.

“I am deeply honored to receive this recognition from Cristo Rey Boston’s leadership. Gilbane has been a long-standing corporate partner to the school and has had the privilege of mentoring over 10 students in our Boston office over the past 12 years. Our partnership with the school has been incredibly rewarding; we’ve seen these students move on to such impressive academic and professional endeavors. We have gained as much from the partnership as we hope the students have, they are truly an inspiration”, states Tom Gilbane Jr., chairman, Gilbane Building Company.

Creating opportunities for young people to gain exposure to the field of architecture and construction has been a long-time passion of Mr. Gilbane. Thanks to his vision, in addition to hiring students, Gilbane regularly participates in career exploration programs run by the CWSP Office that create opportunity for students to explore careers in various fields. Mr. Gilbane has chaired for six years and continues to serve on the Executive Committee of the ACE Mentor Program of America, an organization dedicated to preparing students for both college and careers in architecture, construction, and engineering.

The Academic Signing Day Celebration took place on May 17, 2022, at the event space of Nutter. All proceeds supported Cristo Rey Boston’s tuition-free model, which ensures that finances are not a barrier for aspirational students focused on creating a pathway to college for themselves.
