Dilworth Park Renovation
Gilbane provided construction management services for transformation of Dilworth Park into a new and inviting gathering space located in the heart of Center City Philadelphia.
Transforming the Heart of Center City
Dilworth Park has been transformed from an outdated, inaccessible, multi-level plaza into a sustainable, accessible, green public space for citizens and visitors to enjoy. By removing unnecessary walls, steps, and barriers, the space has grown 20% resulting in a 120,557 SF park that includes a variety of new features including:
- A programmable fountain
- A new café
- An ice skating rink
- 400 benches and chairs
- A lawn area that is handicap accessible
- Glass archways entering the subway
The site was located atop the heart of the region’s robust transit network. Gilbane was required to work in and around the active subway lines and coordinate with SEPTA for the very few scheduled shutdowns that were permitted.
Keeping Warm and Pushing for Results
This project had a tight budget and was built on a historical site where the as-built information was not always accurate. Gilbane was the link between all various entities to make sure all concerns were addressed. Gilbane helped push the project to completion while construction occurred over one of the worst winters in history.
