Shared Values

Gilbane has been family owned since its inception in 1870, and for six generations our commitment to our family culture and core values has never wavered. We know how important the concept of family is to military service people, and we share that sentiment. We are family first in everything we do, and our corporate culture stems from that mindset. The most important thing we look for in prospective candidates is that they share our values and show willingness to buy into our culture. We believe those who have served in our military know as well as anyone the true value of loyalty, discipline, commitment to excellence, teamwork, integrity, toughmindedness, caring and entrepreneurship.

Rebecca Severson
Throughout my career in the Air National Guard, Gilbane proudly supported me during deployments and active duty time. In return, I use the leadership and technical skills that I developed as an Air Force officer everyday in my career at Gilbane.

Rebecca retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air National Guard having served as a Medical Group Commander and a Bioenvironmental Engineer focused on occupational safety and industrial hygiene programs. From officers across the country, she was named the “Air National Guard Biomedical Specialist Field Grade Officer of the Year” in 2015.  Since joining Gilbane in 2003, Rebecca has worked in various roles, most notably, as a regional safety manager, where she was integral to implementing the company’s commitment to “Gilbane Cares,” an incident and injury free approach to safety that has changed the company’s culture.

Favorite Core Value: Toughmindedness.  One needs to be toughminded in order to really protect workers and foster the partner core value of “Caring.”  To me, toughmindedness is speaking up for what is right when it’s easier to stay silent.  This can be tough when you are in the moment, but it is worth it in the end.
Favorite Project or part of my job I love:  I can’t pick a favorite project as they all are special in their own way.  However, I can still place where I was and what I was doing when I realized that I love safety!  The best part of my job is knowing that by preventing injuries, I’m positively impacting families and making a difference.

Committed to Serving Those Who Serve our Country

Gilbane offers unwavering support to our reservists and their families. Gilbane will supplement the income of our employees called to active duty so they remain at the same income level as prior to deployment. And, the continuation of healthcare benefits for dependents results in ease of mind while an employee is deployed.

Volunteer Opportunities

One of our many Gilbane Cares initiatives includes our partnership with the Honor Flight Network, a nonprofit association whose mission is to transport America’s veterans at no personal cost to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorials dedicated to honoring those who have served and sacrificed for our country. Gilbane volunteers pair with a veteran and personally escort them around the memorials. This opportunity has created some extraordinary and lasting friendships for our employees. For those veterans unable to fly, Gilbane provides our innovative VR technology so they are able to experience a virtual tour of the memorials through Oculus 3D glasses. Seeing the emotion on the faces of veterans and their family members after they have this experience is deeply rewarding. We feel we owe it to our veterans to not only tell them we appreciate their service and sacrifice, but to also show them as well.

Federal Projects

GuamOur long history with U.S. federal and military contracts means we are entrusted with some of the most challenging and rewarding projects they have available at home and abroad. Gilbane Building Company has been working on the island of Guam since 2002, completing numerous projects for the U.S. Air Force. Gilbane, together with its partners, will build an Air Combat Element gym that incorporates High Intensity Tactical Training (HITT) equipment and training areas that include a sprint track, locker and bathroom areas, staff offices and storage space. The project scope includes civil and utilities infrastructure, a parking lot and anti-terrorism/force protection setback measures.
