Dan Gilbane named to Houston’s 40 under 40 Class of 2011Dan Gilbane, vice president and regional business development manager for Gilbane’s Southwest regional office, was recently named to the Houston Business Journal’s 40 under 40 list, a prestigious honor for the area’s most promising and innovative young leaders.
ENR Midwest list of 20 under 40Adam Jelen, 35, VP and Distrcit Manager, was named to ENR Midwest's 20 under 40As a Gilbane district manager, Adam Jelen routinely employs, among other methods, lean construction, integrated project delivery, and green-building techniques to outstanding effect, his colleagues say. Jelen not only implements target costing and building information modeling (BIM) on projects with success, but he also shares his expertise with other professionals at industry events. In addition, Jelen is community minded, having developed the Gilbane Cares—Building Better Communities program to serve greater Milwaukee.

University Hospitals Awards $50,000 to Students in ACE Mentor ProgramUniversity Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio, will award $50,000 in scholarships to students at the ACE (Architecture, Construction and Engineering) Mentor Program. Gilbane Building Company and University Hospitals are co sponsors of the ACE program and brought it to Cleveland in 2008.This is the first scholarship award made from the health system’s $200,000 donation to the ACE Mentor Program of Cleveland to be distributed over the next four years.

Rogers Garden Elementary: School receivesLEED Silver Certification for Being Green   G.D.Rogers Garden Elementary is the newest school in the county and was designed to create a healthy environment that is favorable to learning while saving energy, resources and money. There are many features that make it progressive, like its efficient use of potable water. The school uses reclaimed water to take care of the landscaping (all plants are drought resistant), has a special rainwater cistern to sustain teaching gardens for students, and includes low-flow fixtures and dual flush toilets. Combined, they reduce water consumption by 53 percent.
West Bay Builders' Walnut Creek Library Named IPI's Project of the YearThe International Partnering Institute (IPI) honored the Walnut Creek Library project team as a 2011 IPI John L. Martin Partnered Project of the Year.  The winner in the Sapphire category, the Walnut Creek Library was constructed by West Bay Builders and developed in partnership with the City of Walnut Creek (owner); Group 4 Architecture, Research + Planning (designer); Gilbane Building Company (construction manager); and M. Silver & Company, Inc. (facilitator).
